11.03.2020 Research carried out by partner UCPH demonstrated a new way to address a central problem in quantum physics: at the quantum scale, any measurement disturbs the measured object. They measure the motion of a thin vibrating drum that is a few millimetres wide using advanced laser techniques to determine its distance from a mirror, recording drum movements that are a million times smaller than a single atom. With this level of precision and control, the drum can act as a sensor for magnetic resonance imaging of extremely small objects, like viruses.
We have created a video demonstrating this concept of the Quantum Drum.
